My Story

Donna’s Story

I first met with the toilet bowl was when I was 14 years old on New Years Eve. My friends and I helped ourselves to my parent’s rum and I vividly remember throwing up multiple times and the hangover the next day was absolutely horrible. Drinking was accepted and revered as vital to having a good time thus my drinking days had begun…

…Flash forward to my 50’s. With the changes that come in mid-life — our bodies, our relationships, empty-nesting, facing retirement, separation or divorce — I found myself slipping into a daily drinking habit to cope with all the stresses. I would try to quit drinking and was successful for months at a time but life circumstances always brought me back to “just having one”. As alcohol slowly ate away at family relationships, dealing with teenaged children, aging parents and my own internal struggles with menopause life became almost unbearable. On the outside, everyone thought I was fine — athletic, active in my community, my church, running a successful business, raising a family. But on the inside, things were not so perfect.  I never hit a “rock-bottom”.  I just knew that drinking wasn’t serving me anymore. Annie Grace’s book “This Naked Mind” taught me to change my thinking around alcohol and find new ways to deal with life’s hiccups without using wine as my go-to therapy friend. I feel liberated and at peace now with my life, my decisions and what my future holds. I can help you find this freedom as well. As a certified “This Naked Mind” coach, I have your back. Let’s do this!

May your anchor hold,

Donna

about

Brief Bio

An alumni of Queen’s University (Bachelor of Arts ’85), after a brief stint as a financial advisor, I launched my first business in 1989 programming interactive multimedia applications. That led to my being hired in 1993 by Microsoft Corp in Redmond WA. During those busy years “evangelizing” WindowsTM software, I was blessed with two wonderful daughters.  I’ve also held Sr. Management positions with Intuit Inc. and launched and ran a successful vacation rental business near Banff Alberta. Anchor Coaching is going to be the highlight of my career – giving back to those like me who want freedom from alcohol.
I’m 59, divorced and live with my trusty Pomeranian named Socks. I love to be outside enjoying a multitude of sports and activities.
